Lucchetti Ranch & Classic Sires
Breeding Report.

The 2008 breeding year was a huge success. Domiro and Classic Sires had many exciting offspring hit the ground this year here on the Lucchetti Ranch. We have introduced some new mares into the breeding program in 2008, coupled with our proven mares, 2009 promises another stellar crop of foals.

For 2009, we are pleased to offer Domiro along with stallions from Celle, Gestüt Sprehe, and Böckmann. We have also expanded our inventory to include many classic sires and talented newcomers. We are looking forward to meeting your breeding needs and helping you find the perfect match for your mare.

2008 Inspections

The high quality of the Lucchetti Ranch breeding program was evident at the American Hanoverian Society inspections held at Starr Vaughan Equestrian in August and Rainbow Equus Meadows in October. Our colt Eddie Lucchetti by Classic Sires stallion Escudo I out of Piadora (Pluspunkt/Exponent) was called back as the top colt of the Starr Vaughn inspection. The filly Domineque by Domiro out of Kara (Kalypso/Idol) bred by Bob and Finley Keller of Keller Farms (Wilton, CA) was singled out as a top filly of that inspection.

Another exciting achievement at the Starr Vaughn inspection was the recognition of Katie Hoefs’ KWPN mare Tasha (Ferro/Rampal/ Heidelberg) as the Champion Non-Hanoverian mare. Tasha is Katie’s competition horse and is in foal to Domiro through embryo transfer. We are eagerly awaiting the birth of this foal to add to Katie’s band of Domiro offspring at Katie Hoefs Dressage (Gilroy, CA).

Two of our young mares did very well at the Rainbow Equus Meadows inspection. Eleganza was champion Hanoverian mare. She scored many 9’s on her conformation and received an overall score of 8. Fiamma CS received 8’s across the board on conformation and completed her mare performance test receiving an 8 on rideability. Eleganza and EM Fiamma CS are our “Featured Mares” in this newsletter.

Additionally, we presented Fuerst Avenue, a ten year old Hanoverian mare by Fürst Gotthard out of P.G. Park Avenue (Prinz Gaylord/Wendekreis) owned by longtime friend and breeder Audrey Stroupe of Queens Lane Farm (Petaluma, CA). Fuerst Avenue came to us to be bred to Domiro and prepared for her mare inspection. We took one look at her and knew she needed to be performance tested and possibly secure herself a place in the AHS jumper breeder program. With a rigorous fitness and training program, we prepared her for her test where she blew everyone away with her jumping and rideability. Fursty scored four 9’s on her mare performance test with an overall score of 8.33 making her an elite mare and in the jumper breeding program. Congratulations to Audrey and Ericka!

Featured Lucchetti Ranch Mares
Eleganza and EM Fiamma CS

Two years ago, Lucchetti Ranch Breeding Manager, Kevin Reinig, traveled to Germany on a mission to find two mares who would infuse new blood into the breeding program and whose pedigrees would include jumping and dressage bloodlines that complemented our stallion, Domiro.  We are very excited about the two mares that Kevin found on that trip.  The first mare, Eleganza (Embassy I/Acord II/Wendelin), is a tall, huge moving, and elegant.  The second, EM Fiamma CS (Fabriano/Augustinus xx/Servus), is tall, outgoing, and substantial.  Both mares are now in foal to Domiro.  They successfully completed their mare inspections this fall.  Eleganza won her inspection with an 8.0 receiving 8s on conformation and gaits, and 9 on type.  She will do the mare performance test next year with her foal by her side.  We are hopeful that she will become an elite mare and be accepted into the jumper breeding program.  Fiamma CS completed her mare performance test scoring an 8 on rideability.

Featured Team Member: Ericka Reinig

Ericka’s passion for horses was rewarded at the age of four, when she got her first pony.  With the support of her mother, Darlene, Ericka was on her way to becoming an elegant and sensitive rider and trainer.

At the age of thirteen, Ericka went to work for Glenwood Farms in Glen Ellen, CA, where she began to learn about breeding and training young horses.  She worked with broodmares and foals in exchange for the opportunity to ride and compete.
After Glenwood Farms relocated to Wilton, CA, in 1985, Ericka remained in the Glen Ellen area, riding, training, and competing young horses for various breeders.  Then, at the age of 19, she worked exclusively for the equestrian center at Chalk Hill Winery where she continued to ride and compete.

In 1992, Ericka decided to focus on breeding, starting young horses, and preparing them for sale.  She moved to Wilton and returned to Glenwood Farms as an auction rider and assistant trainer.  She started many young horses for the auctions at Glenwood and prepared mares for the mare performance test.  Among her many MPT winners are EM Reminsce (Rio Grande/Pik Solo), EM Filoli (Fabriano/Maurice), and EM Fuerst Avenue (Fürst Gotthard/Prinz Gaylord).

In 2003, Ericka and her husband, Kevin, moved to Lucchetti Ranch where they now live and run their training business, KEFA Performance Horses, and manage the Lucchetti Ranch breeding program.  Ericka continues to start and sell young horses under saddle for both amateurs and professionals. Ericka’s favorite part of training is being able to see the successful outcome of a sale.  “There’s nothing better than when we go to a show and someone competes on a horse we started and sold,” Ericka explained.

Ericka also enjoys competing and doing the MPT with her clients’ horses and Lucchetti Ranch offspring.  She has had many successes in the show ring. Her career highlights include:  earning her USDF Bronze and Silver Medals; participating in the FEI Five Year Old National Championships in Kentucky with Lucchetti Ranch’s Donavan; receiving an 8.33 on the domestically bred mare Fuerst Avenue at the MPT; and winning CDS Horse of the Year on Fraktura, owned by Joan Cinquini, this fall.  Ericka credits her success to the encouragement and support she receives from KEFA Performance Horses, Lucchetti Ranch, and their clients.

Featured Lucchetti Ranch Mare

D’Lilah
(Diamont/Golfstrom)

D’Lilah is one of Lucchetti Ranch’s most valued mares because of the excellent foals she produces.  D’Lilah is 11 years old, bay, and has had a total of six foals here at the farm, the first one being Donavan.  Donavan, only five years old, has become Lucchetti Ranch’s superstar proving his dressage capability at many levels.  Her other offspring are Deshee, owned by Madeline Zook; Galleano, owned by Kaira Robinson; Devera, owned by Carole Webb; Donna Lucchetti, a yearling; and Donna Fatale, from this year’s foal crop.  D’Lilah is definitely the “queen bee” of the pasture and demands respect with her presence.  She has proven herself to be a great mother and takes pride in her babies.  D’Lilah is confirmed in foal to Domiro for the next breeding season and we all look forward to see what she produces next.

Kentucky or Bust!

This year, Ericka and Donavan qualified for the FEI Five Year Old National Championships in Lexington, Kentucky.  With the Young Horse Championship, one must receive over a 7 to qualify, but only the top 50 horses will be allowed to travel back East.  Ericka and Donavan qualified with an 8.14, placing them 9th out of the 50.  On September 8th, Ericka and Kevin started across the country with Donavan in tow.  Ericka and Donavan were amongst the stars of California and proved to be strong competitors.  “I had so much fun competing!  Words cannot express how nice and welcoming everyone was.  They made all of us from California feel so comfortable,” Ericka describes the atmosphere.

For the 2008 season, Ericka hopes to qualify for the Four, Five, and Six Year Old Division.  “I want to go back every year from now on…it’s a huge goal of mine!”

Megan Vincent

With her witty sense of humor and constant laughter, Megan brightens any horse function.  She broke into the dressage world with Donavan, Lucchetti Ranch’s superstar, even though she competed for years in the Hunter/Jumper rings. Megan loves to attend breed shows and is always willing “to add a little more ShowSheen.”  She enjoys being involved with her breeding program here at Lucchetti Ranch.  She helps with collecting Domiro, handling youngsters, and working on the farm’s marketing. It is easy to see that Megan truly loves her horses.  She is a true supporter and #1 fan of Kevin and Ericka and of the work they do in every aspect.  She and her husband, Donny, live on the farm, with their two children, David and Siena.
